Topic: The Indispensable role of Testing in Business Intelligence projects

Abstract: The whole purpose behind any kind of Business Intelligence project is to gather data from different sources; and then integrate that data into data warehouses; use that data for analytics; finally, a better decision making to improve business performance based on reporting. In the entire process, Testing plays key role in predictive and prescriptive analysis of performance in building test scenarios for ETL verification cases, staging data, which is widely used. Testing strategy while implementing Business Intelligence reporting tools like Tableau, Qliksense is also crucial to establish not only level of trust in data, but also to avoid performance issues in future. BI Report Testing, is often overlooked or not considered as important as ETL testing, which results in many BI project failures. Testing strategy at every stage is indispensable in BI projects starting from source data until reporting in multiple perspectives. In this paper we will discuss, the consequences of ignoring Testing strategy at BI reporting and its impact on business, advantages of focusing on Testing strategy while we detail more on “Tabjolt” a testing solution from Tableau.
